Electric Flap Drive: 10.0 hrs

June 29, 2020

I decided today to install the electric flap drive as the next step. First, I had to make a bunch of small components to mount the drive including spacers and random odds and ends to hold the motor in place. I drilled and installed the weldment mounts to the bulkhead and drilled the floor to accept the nut plates for the center mounting block. I also cut the center mounting block to size and ground off a corner to match the drawing. Lastly, I took the baggage channel cover and cut out the corner so I could install/remove it in the future without having to remove the flap motor drive.

I cut and tapped the flap pushrods and realized you can’t actually install them once the weldment is in place, so out came the weldment and then right back in. I’m not sure how the pushrods go through the skin yet, so hopefully that comes up on a future drawing as I do the review. I know I’m going to have to take the dremel to the skins real soon, but I have no idea ho much to enlarge the holes.

I moved on to marking and drilling the vertical support for the nut plates that hold the side covers in place. I didn’t get around to riveting them in place, but that’ll be a good spot to start tomorrow.
