Day 86 – Impossible Tree

We stayed in a Quality Inn last night, and the place lived up to the ongoing theme of cheap hotels with bathtubs that won’t drain. This is probably the 5th shower where I’ve had to stand in the previous persons dirty water. The bed was comfortable but is it too much to ask for the drains to be unclogged?

Hitchhiking continues to be easier that everyone makes it out to be. I don’t think I’ve had to wait more than 15 min for a ride wherever I was going. Today we rode in a hot wheels truck back to the river around noon after our dollar general resupply.

The weather was perfect for being on the water, overcast and not too hot. We saw a ton more people on the river now that it’s the weekend but still managed 13 miles to the Goods Landing boat ramp.

The most interesting thing we saw today was an impossible tree. I really have no idea how it’s still standing and healthy, but I respect it’s determination.

We tried a different flavor of 4 Lokos today. The stuff is more alcoholic than a bottle of wine but not nearly as tasty. Still, a cheap way to pass the time on the water.

Tomorrow’s forecast includes rain, we’ve only got 31 miles to Front Royal so I’m hoping to be there in 2 days. However, if it rains much that’ll probably slow us down. Turnip made it to Front Royal today, I’m hoping to catch up with her after I get off the water. This gang doesn’t want to put in as many miles as I do and Turnip was fun to hike with.

Day 86 Mileage: 12.6 mi [Luray -> 38º46’10″N 78º23’34″W]
Total Mileage: 965.2 mi
