Day 64 – Back to Damascus

Since Kacy didn’t land until ~ 3pm it was a fairly lazy day at Four Pines.

There was a local hiking group that made a lot of noise around 5 am, waking everyone up so that they could get out and hit the trail. By 9 am they called the hostel shuttle to “rescue” them from the light rain that was passing through. When the rain cleared up ~11, they called the shuttle yet again to go back out and were furious that it took more than 5 min for the shuttle to arrive since the driver was having lunch. They clearly didn’t know that life doesn’t happen on a schedule when hiking.

While hanging around we met Hollywood at the hostel. He’s on his second thru-hike attempt and wasn’t planning on going to Trail Days. He changed his mind after we told him we had an extra seat in the rental car headed south so he became part of the party as well.

The hostel owner’s wife gave El Dorado, Hollywood, and myself a ride to Buffalo Wild Wings in Roanoak near the airport a little after noon. We hung out and had Long Island Ice Teas until Kacy arrived. It was really nice to see her again.

After a two hour drive, a couple stops to stock up on snacks and drinks, and a couple bathroom stops we were finally in Damascus. We checked in to the Broken Fiddle and found a spot for the tent. The rest of the crew (Peanut, Cricket, and Caboose) was hanging around there too so we all went out for dinner to catch up. It was a fairly chill evening of sitting around the fire drinking some beers with the Fiddle crowd.
