I got out of the hotel around 11 am and caught a hitch back to the trail head. Everyone else decided to stay one more night in Pearisburg and commit to doing big days all week.
El Dorado and Prarie Dog said they’d catch up to me by Friday to ride down to Damascus with Kacy and I. The rest of them have arranged a ride with Festus on Thursday.
I hiked out with Plug and Turnip who were as eager to get gone and back on the trail as I was. Plug fell behind a couple miles in and I fell behind Turnip not long after.
Today was one of the worst foot pain days on the trail. I took some ibuprofen at lunch, but it either took forever to kick or never really had much impact. I’m really looking forward to new shoes this weekend.
I caught up to Turnip right before we passed a completely full shelter. We hiked on a bit longer looking for any spot to call home for the night but there weren’t any good options. Eventually we settled on a single tent spot, she hung her hammock and I pitched my tent on the most lopsided site I’ve camped at so far. The next spot was two miles up the trail and we were both done for the day.
It rained on and off through the day and the overnight low is in the 40’s. I’m glad I still have my cold weather gear, so I’ll be comfy. I’m still planning to send the cold weather gear home this weekend in Damascus, so I hope it does warm up a bit.
