Day 41 – The Hurt Doesn’t Stop

Today was the worst day on the trail yet. My foot is still bruised and isn’t getting better. I’m walking with a limp and in an annoying amount of pain. The terrain isn’t difficult, for that I’m glad but I’m still going slow just favoring the foot.

Cricket and Prairie Dog had to stop by another hostel in Roan Mountain to pick up their latest trail drop. The rest of us waited around at Buck Creek for them for over an hour before we finally set off. We passed the time getting the truck drivers to honk their horns. Eventually we started hiking, they’ll have to catch us up down the trail.

We stopped at some waterfalls for lunch and used the other creeks to cool off throughout the day. The trail followed the river for a while and some of the guys jumped in for a swim, it was too cold for me though after dinner I did soak my feet for a while.

I passed the 400 mile marker today, but I’ve got to average 15 miles a day for the next 4 days to make Damascus with the food I have. I’m going to need more ibuprofen when I get there, I’m just hoping my feet start doing better instead of worse.
