Another nero today and I’m glad for it. It was a short walk from Davenport Gap Shelter, across interstate forty, and over to Standing Bear Farm. The place is nothing special but it does have a lot of charm.
Kiwi, Pin Drop, and I agreed to split a cabin for the night and thew our stuff in the dryer. Kiwi found a baby mouse in the laundry room and decided it was the cutest thing ever. Pin Drop and I were just grossed out.
I stepped on the scale here and supposedly I haven’t lost any weight in the 26 days of hiking. Most of the group has lost 10-15 lb already, I feel supremely cheated on this weight loss program.
The farm offers burgers and beer for lunch and promised a hot dinner as well, which I’m looking forward too. Overall the place seems like a pretty well run hippie commune with a chill atmosphere. I think the rest of the day will be socializing around the fire and icing my foot off and on. I’m pretty sure the bruise on my foot is in the bone and not the muscle, so I’m not sure it’ll help but it’s worth a shot.
Day 26 Mileage: 3.5 mi [Davenport Gap Shelter -> Standing Bear Farm]
Total Mileage: 249.6 mi
It’s been fun to follow along with your adventure. Do you look back on any one thing you packed on day 1 and shake your head because it just didn’t work out? Happy hiking! – Scott
Glad you’re enjoying the blog. I’m reconsidering my tent, it collapses in 10 mph winds, doesn’t keep the wind out very well and the condensation can be pretty bad. Might look into a different one in Damascus, but we’ll see.
I’m not expert on weight loss, but my guess is the recurring theme of burgers and beer is keeping you plump and happy. 😉
Might be a factor… Not going to stop drinking beer and eating burgers though
