We’re planning on mounting throttle quadrants to the arm rests. It’s one of the more non-standard design choices we’ve made. The arm rests as installed in the quick build kit are a fairly flimsy piece of aluminum. Even without the throttle quadrants, there seems to be general consensus that the stock armrests are overly-weak and should be beefed up a bit. Since we’re adding more weight to them, they definitely need to be beefed up.
I drove up to the local metal supply place and picked up some 1/16″x3/4×3/4 L channel for the project. Cut it to length and bent both ends over so they could be attached to the bulkheads for full length support. I matched the rivet spacing on the original armrest rivets and got everything primed, dimpled, and installed.
It increased the height of the vertical part of the arm rest about 1/4″, which may or may not be an issue when we get our interior done. Since we’re doing the throttle quadrants on the side, it’s going to have to be custom anyway, so I’m not overly concerned. I can also just take a cutoff wheel and trim the extra back so everything is the stock height again. This will have to be further modified for the quadrant install later, but it should get us enough strength.
